Cheap Abundant Energy

We all want Cheap Abundant Energy? We all want to live like Al Gore and not worry about if we can heat our homes or afford to get to work.

Some Democrats seems to want us go back to the dark ages where we can eak out a living on our vegetable patch. We can perhaps wear an electric blanket instead of a buffalo hide in our tiny houses just to keep warm.

We must persue all forms of energy including wind, and nuclear. I would like to see all of the coal fired, natural gas and oil power plants closed down. I wish I could afford to make my own electricity with solar panels but that is still years away.

I am not going to give up my car, my house, my air conditioning, my heat any more than Al Gore will. I am also not moving to the city.

Electricity will probably become the fuel of choice of most cars in the future. There are still millions of cars that can run only on gasoline. We must be able to get oil from US lands for two reasons. Exporting money exports jobs and we must do it for our national security. We should adopt strict fuel efficiency laws and try to get rid of the gas guzzlers.

I don't want to lower my standard of living, I want to increase it. Those of you who want to restrict the little people while continueing to consume vast amounts of energy can only be called self serving and evil .

The Real Issue (Free Trade or Subsidized Trade)?

What we actually have is subsidized trade. Our current tax laws add the cost of social security, medicare, medicade, medical insurance, all local, state, and federal taxes on the American worker. These costs are included in the price of US made items making them more expensive.

We on the other hand import items made in China and other locations and do not tax them at all. This type of tax system is very unfair to American workers as we still must pay for all these taxes.

Many Americans have lost their jobs to foreign imports. The ugly truth is anything that is made can be made more cheapely in other countries. We are fast becomming a nation of services. Americans that loose their jobs are forced to take lower paying jobs. While we make Americans work for less we also import millions of poor uneducated people from Mexico to compete with US workers further driving down their wages.

We need to offer more to the lower third of American than another government program or taking from the "rich" to give to the poor. We don't want handouts we want our jobs back.

Our politicians on both sides have been damaging America and Americans. They have been able to do what no enemy has ever been able to do. We are exporting manufacturing jobs and and have borrowed 9 Trillion Dollars and all of the Social Security Trust fund.

If we do not have import tarriffs as allowed by the Constitution we must structure our taxes in a different way.

We must do away with social security tax, medicade, employer social security tax, unemployment tax and federal and state tax from our pay checks. We must instead of this have a national salex tax. This will do two things. It will increase import prices and lower export prices, giving the USA a great trading advantage.

Most countries have adopted this type of tax so they further tax US made items when they import them. Our manufactured goods already have the price of our taxes built into the price.

If we do not drastically change our tax laws we will be on our way to being a third world nation. We are well on our way by importing millions of poor uneducated people which will end up costing much more in taxes.

There must be a canadate for president with some vision. What good is change if that change only makes us worse off. McCain might control spending and taxes. Obama has promised to raise taxes and will do nothing about energy. Again, I don't want a hand out, I want our jobs back..

Do we really want a democrat in office when the US goes bankrupt? It is comming! Our politicians are playing their fiddles while Rome burns

Who do we want then?

GOPstopper's picture

Our trade policies are indeed unfair to Americans. However, the right decries any criticism of these policies as "protectionism." We need fair trade, not free trade. The one thing I disagree with Gore on is NAFTA. In defending his support of NAFTA, he said (paraphasing), sure it sucks now, but it would suck worse if we didn't have NAFTA. Bullsh*t.

I disagree with you, however, on the idea of a national sales tax. Such a tax would --in theory-- level the playing field somewhat for foreign companies who sell goods in the US. The problem is, it is not a fair tax. The rich make so much more money than they need, they can invest it and make even more money without a "sales" transaction taking place. Meanwhile the poor must spend ALL that they make to get by. A national sales tax -- which would have to be VERY high to result in sufficient income in lieu of those other taxes -- would be levied disproportionately on the poor.

A big part of the problem we have now is the reduction in corporate income tax rates, the reduction in the highest-bracket income tax rates, deregulation, and so-called "free trade." All of these, plus the successful anti-union movement, all began with Ronald Reagan. The Sr. Bush, Clinton, and the Jr. Bush all continued these policies. The brief Internet/tech boom/bubble masked our problems briefly. If not for those programs and policies the Internet boom may not have been a spike but rather sustained growth. If not for Gore there would have been no Internet boom at all.

A Gore presidency would give us some hope for correction, an Obama presidency (ironically) somewhat less hope. But a McCain presidency? A vote for McCain is a vote to "stay the course" on the economy -- a course which is heading straight into the ground. So, do we really want a democrat in office...? YES... we want LOTS of them in office. If you really want our jobs back, that's our only real choice right now.

A Reason to Vote for Gore or Obama?

Bill Clinton and Al Gore spend 8 years in the White House. Can anyone remember anything this pair accomplished during this time?

Bill Clinton was too worried about upsetting any one and having people like him. I liked him as president because he accomplised nothing. I liked his hands off approach to everything.

Now we need some action. The national debt will eventually crush the nation if something is not done in the next presidential cycle.

All the money in the social security trust fund has been borrowed and we owe 9 Trillion on top of this. Obama and Hillary want to spend even more, more, more,.... The spending of the republicans shoud be an opening to get back to sane spending.

Many American people are struggling to heat their homes and drive to work, yet we do nothing but offer yet another government program. Deciding not to drill for more more oil on US property now and to ensure all vehicles are fuel efficient will be the cause of the Democrats loosing this next election.

The chanting of change sounds good, but Obama has not offered any fixes to any problems. There are no leaders on either side and the US dollar will soon become worthless. It might be months or years but it is comming. When it arrives social security will end, all the give away programs will end suddenly.
